THE RIGHT BAR FITTED PROPERLY EVERY TIME!

Towing

Whatever you are towing it is pretty obvious that you do not want to lose it en-route. It is essential that your tow bar is properly fitted, the correct type, and whatever you are towing is not too big for the tow vehicle. This section is your guide to safe and legal towing.

The Bar

Must be strong enough and properly attached to the vehicle so that it does not fall off. Obvious? Yes. However home made bars botched on to the back of cars and vans do exist, and they are potentially lethal. Since 1998 vehicles must be fitted with "European type approved Tow bars". These have been designed specifically to mount on one vehicle and have been thoroughly tested to ensure that they do not fail in use. Wherever possible we  use Type approved bars.

The Electrics

Most  problems are caused by poorly installed electrics. The main culprit is the use of 'Scotch Locks.' This  little device makes a quick easy connection, however it is quite likely to fail  especially if used outside the car, and may also cause the vehicles rear lights to malfunction.  We always solder joints wherever possible. Yes it takes a bit longer but years later the lights still work

A more recent development has been the introduction of multiplex wiring systems into vehicles. They work by having one power cable running to a main controller which receives a signal instructing it which light to turn on (or off.) These systems must be spliced into with a great deal of care and must have the correct interfaces to prevent an expensive system failure. Our technicians are trained to overcome any problems encountered whilst working with Multiplex systems.
